Generator Transfer Switch in Denver CO
A portable generator is only as useful as the wiring that connects it to your home. Plugging appliances directly into a generator with extension cords is inefficient and potentially dangerous — and connecting a generator to your panel without a proper transfer switch can back-feed electricity into the utility lines, putting lineworkers at risk and damaging your equipment.
MoJo Home Services installs manual and automatic transfer switches that let you safely connect your generator to your home’s electrical panel — powering the circuits that matter most during an outage. We also install interlock kits as a code-compliant alternative for portable generators.

Generator Transfer Switch FAQs
Why can’t I just plug my generator into an outlet?
Plugging a generator directly into a home outlet (backfeeding) is extremely dangerous — it can energize the utility lines outside your home, putting lineworkers at serious risk of electrocution. It’s also illegal and can void your homeowner’s insurance. A proper transfer switch or interlock kit is the only safe way to connect a generator to your home.
What’s the difference between a manual and automatic transfer switch?
A manual transfer switch requires you to flip switches to transfer specific circuits to generator power. An automatic transfer switch (ATS) detects an outage and switches to generator power within seconds — automatically. ATS is typically paired with a standby generator; manual switches work well with portable generators.
What’s a generator interlock kit?
An interlock kit is a mechanical device installed on your existing panel that prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time — physically preventing backfeed. It’s a code-compliant, lower-cost alternative to a full transfer switch for portable generators.
How many circuits can I run from my generator?
That depends on your generator’s wattage capacity and which circuits you want to power. Our electricians will help you prioritize the most important circuits and design the transfer switch setup accordingly.
