Radiant Floor Heating FAQs
What’s the difference between hydronic and electric radiant heating?
Hydronic systems circulate warm water through tubing beneath the floor — best for whole-home or large-area heating. Electric systems use heating mats or cables — ideal for smaller areas like bathrooms, mudrooms, or kitchens. Hydronic is more efficient for large areas; electric is easier to retrofit in smaller spaces.
Can radiant heating be added to an existing home?
Yes. Electric radiant mats can be installed under new flooring during a remodel. Hydronic systems can also be retrofitted, though they work best during larger renovation projects.
What flooring types work with radiant heating?
Tile and stone conduct heat best. Engineered hardwood, laminate, and certain carpets also work well. Our team will confirm compatibility with your flooring during the consultation.
Is radiant floor heating expensive to operate?
Hydronic systems, especially when paired with an efficient boiler, are very cost-effective for whole-home heating. Electric systems are best for supplemental heat in targeted areas. Our team will help you understand the operating costs for your specific application.
