Why does a blocked drain look like a pressure switch failure?
Because on most condensing furnaces the condensate trap sits in the same pressure path the switch is sensing. Water standing where air should move changes the negative pressure the inducer develops, the switch never closes, and the board reports a draft-proving fault. Replacing that switch fixes nothing. The way to tell the difference in a Superior basement is to put a manometer on the switch port, read the developed pressure against the setpoint, then pull and inspect the trap before touching the electrical side.
Is a high-efficiency furnace still the right choice at 5,495 feet?
Generally yes.
